Empowering communities through public library visits in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City
From February 17-21, 2025, the National Library of the Philippines visited its affiliated public libraries in the Province of Misamis Oriental and City of Cagayan de Oro to support Local Government Units (LGUs) in enhancing public library services for their constituents. Representing NLP were Mr. Chad Aren E. Diaz and Ms. Vida Dorea P. Mendoza from the Public Libraries Division. This visit also enabled NLP to conduct a site visit at Chali Resort and Conference Center as part of the preparations for the 2025 National Conference of Public Libraries.
Likewise, the activity engaged some local chief executives and local leaders in discussions on the benefits of reopening their closed public libraries and establishment of barangay reading centers – stressing on the importance of their community’s equal access to knowledge and lifelong learning.
