Celebrating Julián Felipe Day!

Today, we honor the 164th birth anniversary of Julián Felipe, the brilliant composer behind our Himno Nacional Filipino! The National Library of the Philippines proudly joins the nation in celebrating this remarkable Filipino and his legacy.

Did you know? On June 5, 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo commissioned Julián Felipe, a gifted musician from Cavite City, to create a musical arrangement for the nation’s anthem. Just days later, on June 12, 1898, his masterpiece was performed by Banda Matanda of San Francisco de Malabon (now General Trias) during the historic declaration of Philippine Independence.
