CALL FOR PAPERS: Search for LISM 2022 Best Research Award
The 32nd Library and Information Services Month (LISM) Committee of the National Library of the Philippines, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the National Committee on Libraries and Information Services (NCLIS), and in collaboration with the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) is pleased to announce the Call for Papers in connection with the LISM celebration this November 2022.
Submitted research papers shall undergo the peer-review process and those deemed publishable shall be eligible for the 2022 LISM Best Research Award. We would like to invite all library and information science students and professionals to share the fruits of their researches through publication and oral presentation in a research conference.
I. Objectives
1. To examine the role of libraries and information centers in protecting, conserving, and preserving local heritage and culture.
2. To determine the importance of building local heritage collections and the roles librarians play in promoting and caring for the local heritage within their community.
3. To recognize services, programs, projects, advocacies, initiatives, and activities of libraries and information centers in identifying distinct cultural resources of their respective communities and promoting interest in understanding local heritage and culture.
II. ELIGIBILITY
Participants to this Call for Papers shall be divided into two categories: (A) LIS Undergraduate category and (B) LIS Graduate and professional category. Current members of the LISM Committee may submit research papers for publication but will not be eligible for the 2022 LISM Best Research Award.
III. RESEARCH TOPICS
The theme of the 32nd Library and Information Services Month is “Mga Aklatan Bilang Kanlungan ng Karunungan: Tagapangalaga ng Kultura at Pamanang Lokal”. With this, the submitted abstracts should be in line with the general theme and any of the following topics:
Culture and Creativity
Guaranteeing Access to Knowledge
Information and Culture
Intellectual Repository
Libraries and Culture
Libraries as Agencies of Culture
Role of the Library in Contemporary Culture
Library, Heritage, and Society
IV. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1. All submitted papers must be original contributions and not being considered for any other publication.
2. The abstract and full paper must be in Microsoft Word format (*.doc or *.docx) and submitted to the LISM Committee at jfsantos@nlp.gov.ph. In the subject line, key in LISM Research Submission [Abstract or Full Paper (Category A or B)]. Please ensure all articles are proofread and check for accuracy prior to submission.
3. Authors must follow the Submission Template (https://tinyurl.com/LISM2022CFP) . Final papers must be written in either English or Filipino, with a maximum of 20 pages (double-spaced, 12-point, Arial font).
4. It is understood that by submitting the research papers, permission has been granted to NLP to publish them on the website and in print. However, authors will retain the copyright over their works.
5. Only upon the acceptance of the full paper and initial review process of the Committee that you will be invited to present your paper during the Research Conference on 17-18 November 2022.
V. SELECTION, ACCEPTANCE, AND AWARDING
The peer review process will be conducted in order to select the best manuscripts for presentation and publication, provide authors with useful feedback, and prevent academic dishonesty. The identity of the author will be concealed from the reviewers during the blind review process. The theme, content, organization, and style will all be considered in the selection process.
Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Contribution to the community and the field of librarianship
2. Extensiveness of literature review and references
3. Appropriateness of the methodology
4. Consistency of data analysis, results, and conclusions
5. Actual or perceived impact of the study
VI. PRESENTATIONS
Authors of selected papers will be invited to present their research for the 2022 LISM Research Conference on 17-18 November 2022. 15-20 minutes will be allotted for oral presentation, with 5-10 minutes for questions/critique.
VII. AWARDS
After the Research Conference, three (3) winners will be picked for each category and will receive the following:
CATEGORY A: Undergraduate Students
1st Prize – 30,000 + Certificate of Recognition
2nd Prize – 20,000 + Certificate of Recognition
3rd Prize – 10,000 + Certificate of Recognition
Consolation Prizes (for presenters) – Token + Certificate of Appreciation
CATEGORY B: Professionals and Graduate Students
1st Prize – 30,000 + Certificate of Recognition
2nd Prize – 20,000 + Certificate of Recognition
3rd Prize – 10,000 + Certificate of Recognition
Consolation Prizes (for presenters) – Token + Certificate of Appreciation
VIII. PUBLICATION
Full papers will undergo peer review process and selected papers will be included in the 2022 LISM Research Journal publication.
