Zamboanga City – The #NationalLibraryPH conducted a second training series on Empowering Public Libraries through NLP’s products and services on September 11–12, 2023 in Zamboanga City through the Public Libraries Division (PLD).

The objectives of the training are: 1.Train affiliated public libraries on the services of NLP that they may incorporate within their respective public libraries; 2. Monitor public libraries that are newly established, inactive, and have not been monitored/visited for more than 5 years; and 3. Campaign for the establishment and affiliation of public libraries in LGUs without existing public libraries.

Topics discussed were about Legal Deposit and Mechanical Processing of Library Materials by Ms. Lonlia Garcia, Librarian III in Collection Development Division; Cataloging-in-Print and Understanding Classification of Library Materials by Ms. Susan Zamora, OIC/Assistant Chief in Catalog Division; Numbering Systems by Mr. Joel Lascano, Librarian II in Bibliographic Services Division; NLP’s Social Media Engagement Practices by Ms. Melanie Ramirez, Assistant Chief of Research and Publications Division; Reference Services and NLP’s eResources by Ms. Xenia Romero, Librarian III in Reference Division; Safeguarding Library Resources: Preservation Practices by Ms. Jean Ico, Section Head of Rare Books and Manuscript Section and Special Collections Section in Filipiniana Division; Handling and Inventory of Library Resources and Equipment by Ms. Ginalene Magallano, Administrative Officer V in Finance and Administrative Division; Digitization Tips, Koha Updates, and Training Requests by Mr. Leonardo Bernabe, Jr., Chief/ITO III in Information Technology Division; PLD OMMR and Monitoring Updates by Ms. Rhodora E. Valdez, Assistant Chief of Public Libraries Division; Library Establishment and Affiliation and the Book Allocation Program by Vida Dorea P. Mendoza, Librarian II of Public Library Division; and Mr. Chad Aren Diaz Section Head of the Training Section in Public Library Division.

The third batch of the said training will be conducted on 23 – 24 October 2023, at Legazpi City, Albay.
