VIRTUAL EXHIBIT : Basic Preservation Activity BOOK FUMIGATION

May 11, 2024

In celebration of National Heritage Month 2024, under the theme “𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀,” the #NationalLibraryPH is showcasing its efforts in book preservation and conservation. As the guardian of the nation’s cultural and intellectual legacy, the NLP plays a crucial role in safeguarding our heritage through the management and preservation of invaluable library materials.

Our Virtual Exhibit offers insight into the materials and processes employed in book preservation at the NLP, providing valuable knowledge for fellow libraries. Fumigation serves as a protective measure for your collection, safeguarding against pests, mold, smoke, and odor. It involves the controlled use of gas in an enclosed space to eliminate these threats (Koglmeier, 2022).

Additionally, the Filipiniana Division invites interested individuals/groups to a 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄 training workshop on Basic Book Preservation and Conservation of Paper-Based Collection. For further details, kindly contact Ms. Susan J. Fetalco, Chief of the Filipiniana Division or Ms. Jean S. Ico, Librarian III and Head of the Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Special Collections Section at (632) 5314-2100 loc 309/311, or email filipiniana@nlp.gov.ph.
