Lazaro Francisco’s 124th Birth Anniversary

The National Library of the Philippines (NLP) celebrates the 124th Birth Anniversary of the “Master of the Tagalog Novel,” National Artist for Literature Lazaro Francisco.

Lazaro was born on 22 February 1898 in Orani, Bataan. As a writer, he gained prominence for his social conscience and masterful handling of the Tagalog language. He established the Kapatiran ng mga Alagad ng Wikang Pilipino (KAWIKA) in 1958 for his advocacy of Tagalog as a national language. He won numerous awards for his meritorious novels and was awarded National Artist for his contribution to Philippine literature and culture.
