HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 33rd LISM OPENING CEREMONIES

November 6, 2023

Earlier today, the National Library of the Philippines led the Opening Ceremonies of the 33rd Library and Information Services Month with the theme, LETS Libraries: Learning, Empowering and Strengthening Society through Libraries.

The celebration started with the ribbon cutting and launching of the Exhibit featuring the Filipino literary collections and award-winning Children’s Book of the country. This is in partnership with the Vibal Publishing Group represented by the Vibal Marketing Head, Ms. Rio B. Lim. The exhibit will be at the NLP 2nd Floor Lobby until 29 November 2023.

Another highlight is the Opening Program at Epifanio Delos Santos Auditorium, NLP attended by library professionals, NCCA-NCLIs officials, members of the different library organizations and students.

Ms. Vicky McDonald, IFLA President served as the keynote speaker who delivered an inspiring message sharing how libraries in their community promote learning and empower society.

On the other hand, the full participation of the selected public libraries in the Philippines was also evident during the simultaneous LISM Opening participated by the Butuan Public Library, Cebu City Public Library, Urdaneta City Public Library and Parañaque City Public Library.

According to NLP Director Cesar Gilbert Q. Adriano, “the 33rd LISM theme calls forth to a more dynamic participation in propagating the invaluable contributions of libraries and information services in enriching our lives, promoting education, and contributing in the development of the community.” The Director also asked to embrace the spirit of “LETS Libraries,” in championing learning, empowerment, and societal transformation through the invaluable institutions that are– our libraries.

The LISM programs and activities will continue until the end of the month. For more information please visit the LISM microsite at 🌐web.nlp.gov.ph/lis and stay updated through the NLP social media pages @NLP1887.
