PABASA
Why do participants join the 𝗣𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗔? The truly devout cite that they do so to fulfill a vow or a promise in exchange for the recovery of an afflicted relative or friend, or in thanksgiving for such recovery. Others maintain that they join the pabasa in keeping with the Lenten message of sacrifice and prayer… Whatever reasons, secular or spiritual, the pabasa goes on. In some parts of the country, the singing of the pasyon has assumed the nature of a contest, with not a few families hiring out a public address system to amplify the pabasa or to seek out and invite professional singers (specially those tenors or sopranos of celebrity status) to lend prestige to the families inviting them. The post-war years have also seen changes in the old traditional styles of singing the pasyon. (𝘛𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘺𝘮𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘴, 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘣𝘺 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘯 “𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘵” 𝘙. 𝘋𝘦 𝘓𝘢 𝘛𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘦. This lenten season, the #NationalLibraryPH is showcasing some of the religious books available in its collection as we spent our time in prayer and reflection.
