July 17, 2025
In celebration of the 𝟰𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸, the #NationalLibraryPH, through its Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities Committee, organized a seminar titled “𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙢 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜” in collaboration with the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) and the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA). The seminar was held on 17 July 2025 at the Epifanio Delos Santos Auditorium, NLP.

𝐌𝐬. 𝐂𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐒. 𝐒𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐦, Education Head of the Autism Society Philippines, served as the resource speaker. A respected SPED educator and one of the founding members of ASP, Ms. Sicam shared valuable insights and practical knowledge on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Her talk aimed to raise awareness and deepen understanding among librarians and staff from various public libraries across Metro Manila—especially in how they can better support and engage persons on the spectrum. She also presented real-life practices and interactive strategies that librarians can apply in their day-to-day work, enhancing their ability to serve individuals with autism with empathy and competence.

As a frontline institution, the NLP also recognizes the importance of offering inclusive services and programs that foster an accepting and informed community. This learning opportunity empowers library workers not only to improve their internal practices but also to champion autism awareness in their local communities. As NLP 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗿 𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗤. 𝗔𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 highlighted in his message during the event, “𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨—𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.” He assured that NLP’s ongoing commitment will lead to creating a space where everyone feels welcomed, represented, and empowered.

This seminar is just one of the many activities lined up by the Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities Committee in celebration of National Disability Rights Week. Stay tuned for more updates through the official #NationalLibraryPH Facebook page.

Empowering Communities Through Public Library Visits in the Province of Zamboanga Del Sur and Zamboanga City

July 15, 2025

The National Library of the Philippines (NLP) visited its affiliated public libraries and various municipalities in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga City on July 07-11, 2025, to support its Local Government Units (LGUs) in providing excellent public library services for their communities. Representing NLP were Mr. Chad Aren E. Diaz, Librarian III, and Ms. Amy Felice P. Bucago, Librarian I, from the Public Libraries Division (PLD).

This activity also enabled engagement with some Local Chief Executives and other local Officials to discuss the benefits of reviving their inactive and closed public libraries, as well as establishing new ones in LGUs that have yet to set up a public library. Highlighted in the discussion was the importance of providing equal access to knowledge and lifelong learning for the entire community.

Library of Congress Field Director Visits the National Library of the Philippines

July 2, 2025

The National Library of the Philippines (NLP) was honored to welcome Ms. Alison F. McKee, the newly appointed Field Director of the Library of Congress (LOC) Manila Office, in a courtesy visit organized by Ms. Annelyn C. Lim, Head of the LOC Manila Office. This visit marks Ms. McKee’s first official engagement with the NLP since assuming her role following the retirement of former Field Director Ms. Laila Mulgaokar in April 2025.

On Monday, June 30, 2025, a brief meet-and-greet was held at the NLP. Director Cesar Gilbert Q. Adriano, along with Ms. Melody Madrid, Chief of the Collection Development Division, and Ms. Ellaine Cristobal, welcomed Ms. McKee and Ms. Lim. The purpose of the visit was to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between the Library of Congress and the National Library of the Philippines.

The Library of Congress Manila Office, operating under the US Embassy, has maintained a fruitful collaboration with the NLP through the years. This courtesy call not only serves as a gesture of goodwill but also as an opportunity to showcase NLP’s current acquisition operations and reaffirm the commitment to cultural and knowledge exchange between the two institutions.

Ms. Lim emphasized that this visit is a way to introduce her new Field Director to the dedicated team at NLP, who have consistently supported the LOC’s mission. “It would be great to show my Field Director our acquisition operations and meet with NLP people who have been exceptionally helping and supporting us throughout the years,” Ms. Lim wrote in her request.

The NLP looks forward to renewed engagement with the Library of Congress.
