May 28 is National Flag Day

May 10, 2022

Today marks the 124th National Flag Day celebration in the country, as Filipinos commemorate the day when the current National Flag was first raised after the victory in the Battle of Alapan on May 28, 1898, and was formally unfurled during the proclamation of independence on June 12, 1898.

Presidential Proclamation No. 374, s.1965 declares May 28 of each year as National Flag Day, while Executive Order No. 179, s. 1994 calls on every Filipino to prominently display the National Flag in all buildings, establishments, and homes from May 28 to June 12 to collectively reflect on the significance of our National Flag and independence.

The National Library of the Philippines is one with the whole nation in celebrating this historical day.
