NLP Visits Public Libraries and LGUs in Negros Oriental

July 17, 2024

The National Library of the Philippines (NLP), led by Director Cesar Gilbert Q. Adriano, along with Public Libraries Division (PLD) staff Ms. Vida Dorea P. Mendoza, Librarian II, and Mr. Michael James R. Reyno, Librarian II, conducted technical assistance and observation visits to several public libraries in Negros Oriental. These include the

  • Dumaguete City Public Library,
  • Bais City Library,
  • Tanjay City Library,
  • Tayasan Municipal Library, and
  • Valencia Municipal Library.

During this activity, the NLP team also had courtesy calls with Local Government Units’ (LGU) Local Chief Executives (LCEs) and officials without public libraries to promote and reinforce Republic Act No. 7743, which mandates the establishment and maintenance of public libraries and reading centers nationwide. With the ongoing profiling by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) of LGUs regarding the presence of public libraries, they also discussed the anticipation of including public libraries as one of the parameters in the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The NLP extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Dumaguete City Public Library staff for providing essential assistance and invaluable support throughout the activity.
