The Training-Series on Delivering the Basics of Quality Public Library Service (Series 3) was recently conducted by the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), through the Public Libraries Division (PLD), and in partnership with the Provincial Government of Quezon through the Quezon Provincial Library last 27 July 2023, in Queen Margarette Hotel Downtown, Lucena City, Quezon.
With a general objective of discussing with attended public libraries the services they are to offer based on the 2015 Revised Standards for Philippine Public Libraries (RSPPL), participants had a thorough discussion on the general library services they must provide to their client, sample innovative library services they may adapt in their respective libraries, and a walkthrough on developing library services to marginalized sector in the Philippines.
Public librarians, public library Officers-in-Charge (OIC), and staff coming from public libraries in Quezon Province and nearby provinces, municipalities, and cities attended the event. Invited speakers who shared their expertise and experiences were Ms. Joana Paola C. Tuazon of Camarines Norte Provincial Library; Ms. Amylen N. Bautista of Albay Provincial Library and Information Center; and Mr. Federico N. Vinluan of Raul S. Roco Library. The NLP staff and organizers were led by none other than NLP Asst. Dir. Edgardo B. Quiros.
The staff of PLD then conducted a validation activity of the 2015 RSPPL in Tiaong Municipal Library, Candelaria Municipal Library, Sariaya Municipal Library, Lucena City Public Library, Tayabas City Public Library, Pambayang Aklatan ng Lucban, Pagbilao Municipal Library, Atimonan Municipal Library, Gumaca Municipal Library, and Quezon Provincial Library. The group was accommodated not only by the public librarian and/or OIC but also by members of the concerned local government unit.
