Rediscovered Treasures in the National Library of the Philippines

Books, manuscripts, photographs, serials, maps and assorted memorabilia make up the treasures of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP). Every year, these collections are added to, increasing the breadth and depth of our recorded cultural heritage. Sadly, the vagaries of time, politics, and budget constraints sometimes make it difficult to keep track of everything in the library's charge.
          

Visit by Fellow Librarians from the National Library of Korea (NLK)

Fellow librarians from the National Library of Korea (NLK), headed by Mr. Tae Young Park, Chief of the Digital Library Department, visited the National Library of the Philippines (NLP) on August 28, 2012 to meet with NLP Director, Atty. Antonio M. Santos. The group were warmly received by NLP Asst. Director Yolanda Jacinto and other staff who have been involved with Korean-related activities and projects.

Chinese Embassy Officials Visit the National Library of the Philippines (NLP)

Officials from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, headed by Mr. Pan Feng, the embassy's Cultural Counsellor, visited the NLP on August 23, 2012. The delegation donated more than 400 books on various aspects of Chinese history, language, literature, arts and culture as well as some children's books. They also paid a courtesy call to NLP Director Antonio M. Santos.

Cataloging Experts Meet in 1st NLP Salon on Resource Description and Access (RDA)

Distinguished librarians and/or catalogers from various institutions participated in a salon discussion on “What Now for RDA in the Philippines?” last July 23rd, 2012, at the Conference Room of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP). The meeting was hosted by the NLP Catalog Division and attended by selected experts on the topic.

NLP 125th Anniversary Celebration

National Library of the Philippines celebrates its 125th anniversary on August 12, 2012. The following activities are lined-up for employees and the general public during the 3-day celebration scheduled on August 22-24, 2012:
