Visit by Fellow Librarians from the National Library of Korea (NLK)

Fellow librarians from the National Library of Korea (NLK), headed by Mr. Tae Young Park, Chief of the Digital Library Department, visited the National Library of the Philippines (NLP) on August 28, 2012 to meet with NLP Director, Atty. Antonio M. Santos. The group were warmly received by NLP Asst. Director Yolanda Jacinto and other staff who have been involved with Korean-related activities and projects.

Director Santos introduced the current programs of the NLP, opening discussions of future in-depth collaboration, including the exchange of collections and expertise. The next step toward a deeper partnership will be the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding from the Koreans' side.

A brief tour followed at the NLP’s reading rooms, particularly the Window on Korea Collection and the Philippine eLib Kiosk and Data Center. They were keenly interested in the accessibility of digital collections within the NLP and through the web, as well as the extent of actual use.

Other activities of the NLK delegation include the launch of a Window on Korea Collection at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Rizal Library on August 29, 2012, with the help of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. The Window on Korea is a program initiated by the NLK which aims to “provide up-to-date Korea-related materials on a variety of topics and formats to people for a better understanding about Korea to leading libraries around the world.”
