ITD deploys 247 Koha servers

Cavite Koha Deployment

In one year time a total of 247 units of koha servers were deployed to 44 city, 2 congressional, 180 municipal, 20 provincial and 1 regional affiliated public libraries in 25 provinces of the country.  Starting from the last quarter of 2010 deployment of Koha Integrated Library System (Koha ILS) was made possible under the 2009-2011 Information System Strategic  Plan (ISSP) of the Information Technology Division (ITD) of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP).

System turn-over and orientation were done at provincial level during the deployment. Modules on Cataloging and Members were given emphasis in the first phase of the training coupled with the basic hardware skill which is setting up the system itself.

Some non-recipient public libraries, government agencies, state and private universities have brought their own PC and server type computers to NLP and were accomodated free koha installation. Koha training for librarians and IT staff of non-affiliated public libraries has a minimal fee.

Cavite Koha Deployment Dec 2010 Koha Phase II training for the recipients of  the province of Cavite  is scheduled on January 24-27, 2012. Their LGU will  shoulder all the training expenses.  Libraries of some offices of the province show also interest to use Koha. Representatives of these offices will be among the participants of the Phase II Training which is actually a review of the two modules mentioned above plus the remaining modules of Koha ILS. Cavite is the first province deployed with Koha by ITD.
