Greetings from the National Library of the Philippines (NLP)!
Pursuant to Proclamation No. 563, S. 1959, NLP is mandated to sponsor the nationwide celebration of Public Library Day every March 9 of the year with all other public libraries all over the Philippines. Relative to this, the NLP in collaboration with the National Library of Malaysia (NLM), Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI), Librarians Association of Malaysia (LAM), Manila City Government through its Library, ASEAN Public Libraries Information Network (APLiN), and The Asia Foundation (TAF) will conduct the 1st ASEAN Regional Conference of Public Librarians (1st ASEAN RCPL) with the theme: “ASEAN Libraries, Arts and Culture: Inspire, Innovate and Collaborate” on August 25-28, 2020 at Rizal Park Hotel, South Road, T.M. Kalaw St. Extension, Ermita, Manila.
The main objective of this regional conference is to provide a venue for learning and appreciation of the ASEAN libraries, arts, and culture as well as their inspiring stories, initiatives, innovations, and collaborations. Specifically, this conference aims to: 1) nurture deeper understanding among ASEAN librarians to fit in our mission and vision along with our library objectives, programs and activities; 2) develop partnerships and collaborations with the leading international library organizations to become updated of their advocacies, librarianship trends including available library opportunities worldwide; 3) showcase libraries in ASEAN for deeper appreciation of our work and our profession; and, 4) foster sense of community among public librarians in the ASEAN region.
Target participants for the Conference are library-in-charge, librarians, information professionals, local government officials, Secretary to the Sanggunian, archivists, library and information science students, reading center staff and the like. The organizers would like to invite also ASEAN, neigboring countries in Asia including Japan, China, and Korea, and other interested countries and regions in the world to participate in the 1st ASEAN RCPL.
